Press Conference

Italy take the bronze

Italy's captain Simon Rinieri-Dennis

Italys captain Simona Rinieri-Dennis: We played well in the first two sets, then started to have difficulties. We fought hard to stay in the game and then entered the tie-break convinced that we could win. In the preliminary rounds, we seemed capable of winning regardless of the formation that the coach put on court, but in the Final Six this was more difficult. Furthermore, if you miss out on a place in the final, its not always easy to bounce back.

Cubas head coach Felipe Calderon: Italy deserved to win. They started well and fought back in the end. The battle for a medal creates a lot of pressure. Italy came out strong and we were unable to respond.

Italys head coach Marco Bonitta: Third place in an international competition is a good result, especially considering we beat Cuba to the bronze medal after they had beaten us only two days ago. The team showed their determination in the tie-break. I have a lot of confidence in my athletes for the World Championships. I think the team can definitely play better over the full distance and we will be working hard to ensure this over the next couple of months.
