Chinese women’s team
receives national award
Shenzhen,
China, March 17, 2005 – The Olympic gold medal winning
women’s Volleyball team from China has received further
accolades after being named the 2004 Laureus Chinese
sports team of the year while coach Chen Zhonghe was
voted best coach of the year at an awarding ceremony in
China on Thursday.
The awards are continued recognition of what was an
awesome performance by the Chinese women’s Volleyball
team, beating the odds and Russia in a pulsating Olympic
final in Athens to claim gold.
The Olympic victory completed a rich vein of form for
the Chinese team after they had entered the 2004 season
with the 2003 World Grand Prix and World Cup titles in
the bag.

The awards to Chinese Volleyball team, who just began
training this month at their traditional base in central
Hunan province, were one of many including the Laureus
China Sportsman of the Year, which went to the Olympic
110m hurdles champion Liu Xiang.
