Nine of the 12 participating teams will qualify for the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Cup 2011 through their respective Continental Championships.
The five continental champions will be joined by the four highest ranked vice-champions according to the FIVB World Ranking as of January 15, 2011.
The remaining two places will be wildcard entries, chosen by the FIVB and the Organising Committee. The only condition is that the two teams had to have taken part in the Continental Championships and have enrolled for London 2012 Olympic qualification.
NB: In case Japan is continental champion or vice-champion, the third ranked team from the continental championship will be taken into consideration as one of the second-placed continental teams.
