Lausanne, 10th September 2007 – After Japan, in the entry list as host country, two teams are already qualified for the FIVB Volleyball World Cup 2007.
Australia has won for the first time the Asian Continental Championship played in Jakarta (Indonesia): Russel Borgeaud’s team on Sunday ended with a gold medal the round robin played among 17 teams. Japan finished with a silver medal, while Korea won the bronze.
The favourite Brazil conquered on the same day their 26th South American’s title, out of a total of 26 participations. In the Final match they beat Argentina 3-0, but for Jon Uriarte’s team it’s a heavy silver medal.
The five Continental Champions will enter the World Cup, together with Japan and two FIVB wild cards, chosen together with the organizers for JVA.
The last 4 places to compose the 12 participant teams will be the best Continental Vice Champions as for January 2007 world ranking.
Argentina can already count on a ticket to Japan, thanks to its 9th place in that ranking. Korea in the Asian Continental Championship was 3rd behind Japan and so considered as a Vice Champion, but the Korean team has to wait until the end of all Continental Championships, because they were not listed in the top positions in January.
