At 186cm Megumi has been nicknamed “Ko,” which means
“high” in Japanese. Her height is a stand out feature amongst a team, which
is traditionally lacking in that department, but the
asset has made her one of the most promising outside
spikers in Japan. She has been improving very fast and
at the 2003 World Grand Prix, she finished the
tournament with a 60 percent success rate in spiking.
Despite her young age Ko has already developed a good
roll of honour in Volleyball. After being born on a
small island, Nomi Island, near Hiroshima, she
moved to Yamaguchi Prefecture on her own at the age of
13 to join a prestigious high school Volleyball team. Ko
brought a national high school title to her school and
as a result, she was selected for the National team.
Ko is very stubborn and tries to push herself to the
maximum all the time. Her favourite movie, food and
activity are “Armageddon”, crème stew and exchanging
e-mails respectively.
