The Chinese national women’s
Volleyball team comes into the 2003
FIVB World Cup in superb form having
won the World Grand Prix in August and
more recently having defended their
Asian Continental Championship title
by clinching the gold medal following
a
straight sets
defeat of Japan.

In an ominous sign for all opposing
teams, the Chinese women's team is
going through a rebuilding phase with
a side composed of many young and
talented players, who have brought a
new and dynamic style to their play.
It
worked wonderfully at the 2003 World Grand
Prix and now they are hoping to do the
same at the World Cup. Players
like
team captain
Feng Kun, Chen Jin and 197cm Zhao
Ruirui are becoming more and more
experienced and increasingly dominant
on the international scene. Their
combination in the World Grand Prix
Finals earlier this year was
exhilarating and laid the foundation
for China's superb result in Italy.
China is currently trying to build a
team with distinguished
characteristics on the basis of
overall abilities for offence and
defense. Under coach Chen Zhonghe,
they have already collected the World
Grand Prix and are looking to add
the 2003 World Cup and an Olympic
qualification berth to their
collection as well.
