Russia gave Puerto Rico volleyball lession
In the last preliminary round match at "erdgas arena" in Riesa, Russia outplayed Puerto Rico. Despite the big loss, Puerto Rico is qualified for the next round, while Russia finished second in Pool C. Even without the still injured captain Evguenia Artamonova, Russia rushed over the Caribbeans.
Russia started well into the first set and clearly led 8-3 at the first technical time-out. The players from Puerto Rico were extremely nervous and made numerous simple attack mistakes. Russia's team further dominated the match (16-5). Puerto Rico simply found no answer to receive Russia's forceful serves. In the end Russia took the first set home with 25-9.
Russia started the second set in the same manner they ended the first one. The European Champions rushed off (5-0). Due to a serving mistake by Russia, Puerto Rico scored its first point (1-7). In the remaining of the set Puerto Rico had no chance against Russia's consistency (25-13).
The third set brought nothing new. The young team from Puerto Rice didn't found a way to fight against Russia's powerful playing skills. (25-8).
Russian Ekterina Gamova was the best scorer with 13 points.
