Brazil ends winning streak of Greece
Brazil ended the winning streak of Greece, one of the most surprising countries during the World Championship. Although the Greek team, the rookie of the event, fought hard they did not stand a chance against the South Americans.
Starting with a slight advantage into the first technical time out at 8-5, Brazil continued to dominate the play and to widen the gap between the two teams. The South Americans succeeded by their powerful spikes and won the set with 25-18.
In the beginning of the second set, Brazil scored seven points in a row. Welissa Gonzaga contributed with three aces. Brazil took a clear lead (9-2) and the Brazilian players used their potential in attacking and blocking in order to complete the set at 25-12.
As well as in the first two sets, the Greek team wes not able to compete with the strong Brazilian formation in the third set, although the Greek players never gave up. After 14-14, Greece found back their old strength. However, it was not enough to win a set 25-23.
For Greece the dream ended, but the defeat against Brazil was expected. The Greek formation has to hope that the results of the other teams will be ok, so the Greeks can proceed to the next round. Brazil can take a seat in the next round by defeating Thailand on Tuesday.
Luciana Nascimento was with 16 points the main scorer.
