The Netherlands in ecstasy after defeating Romania
The Netherlands are in ecstasy. The Dutch team won the first match of the Volleyball World Championship in the preliminary group B against Romania with 3:1. The team of head coach Angelo Frigoni impressed with a variable style in front of almost 1,000 spectators in the Schwerin Sport- and Kongresshalle. In the fourth set the Dutch team clinched third match ball to win this important clash..
The Netherlands had a good start and was immediately took the lead at the start of the first set. Especially the variety in attacks of the team of Italian Frigoni caused problems for the Romanian block and defense.
The Romanian team was always close behind and could follow the opponent until 19:19 with precise serves. However it was the Dutch setter Riette Fledderus who lead their team with perfect sets to the victory in the first set.
The second set was similar to the first one. The "orange" team was soon leading by three points. After winning the second set , coach Frigoni didn't change his starting six in the third set. However the Romanian team was able to take the lead because of mistakes by the Dutch team. After fighting hard the Romanian team was able to win the third set with 29:27.
The Netherlands finally claimed the important victory in the fourth set clinching the third match point.
The Netherlands can continue the winning streak when the Dutch team will play against Egypt on Saturday. On the same day, Romania will have in Korea another strong opponent.
