The Netherlands in ecstasy after defeating Romania
The Netherlands booked a 3-1 victory over Romania in the first preliminary pool B match of the 2002 Women's World Championship. The win over the Rumanians was the victory the Dutch team of head coach Angiolino Frigoni needed to make the first step to a great result in this 24 teams event in Germany.

Canada makes it short with Egypt
Canada defeated Egypt in straight sets in the Pool B clash of the Women's World Championship in Germany. Although the Canadian team made short work of the Egypt team in the first set, the team from Egypt was able to come up and cleared six Canadian set points before losing the second set 23:25. In the third set, Canada cruised to the victory.

Cuba - Korea: Korea beats title holder Cuba
The titleholder and Olympic Champion of Sydney lost their first match of the World Championship against Korea. After losing the second and third set the team from Korea fought hard and finally won the match 3:2. Both teams were supported by the excited spectators and fans.

Highly fancied The Netherlands wins against Egypt
The Netherlands won their second match of the preliminary round in Pool B of the Women's World Championship easily against Egypt. Although the Egypt team took the lead in the third set (5-4) and fought hard, the Egyptians were never able to be a real danger to the European Champion of 1995.

Cuba close to a disgrace
In an exciting five sets match the Cuba team almost lost against Canada. The Canadian team played very well and won two sets by using their strengths in service and blocking. However, at the end it was Cuba that won their first match of the preliminary round after losing against Korea on Friday

Korea proves strength against Romania
Korean won its second match of the preliminary round B in Schwerin against Romania. After the Koreans had to fight hard to win against Cuba Friday night, they won this match in four sets. After winning the third set the Romanian team didn't have a chance against the fast combinations of Korea.

Titleholder Cuba won their match against The Netherlands in three straight sets. It was the first easy victory of the defending champion during the 2002 Women's World Championship here in Germany. The Dutch team seemed to be tired, while Cuba is finally on trac.

Korea is still unbeaten after their third match of the preliminary pool B round. On Sunday Korea defeated Canada in three sets. The Canadian fought hard but was never able to be a real danger to the Korean team.
