Poland first without problems

Poland continues its chain of triumphs; it beat the national team of Croatia with little trouble in three sets (25-21,25-18 and 25-18) at the Angel Malvicino Stadium in the city of Santa Fe. In this way, Wspanialy's players closed their performance as leaders of pool B in the Volleyball World Championship Argentina 2002.
In the first set, Croatia took a quick sprint, with Omrcen as the leader in attack. Poland answered demanding a strong defense in its oponent (33% of efficiency), and managed to tie the score. They traded points till the last five, but the experience of the Polish prevailed.
In the second set, Poland imposed its own pace with a 79% efficiency in attack. Head coach Wspanialy took advantage of the distance in the score and moved all the substitutes bench. The debutants in this competition included the setter Simuncic in the starting line-up. He served his team-mates with good variations in attack, but they were not enough to prevent their fall.
The third set was similar to the previous one, it totally belonged to the Polish. Arbutina's team could not find solutions to its defficiences and enabled its opponent to advance considerably in the score. With variations in attack and the substitutes on court, Poland had no problems in closing the match and its good performance in pool B.Ormcen and Murek, both with 15 points were the best scorers.
With this result, Poland will travel to Córdoba to play in pool H against Spain and two other oponents to be confirmed.
Murek said goodbye to Santa Fe: "The audience was really warm with us, we are very happy; but the real championship starts now".
