Japan won its first match of the 2002 Men's World Championship, defeating Kasakhstan 3-1 in the Pool D clash. It looked like Japan took a 3-0 victiory, but the former Soviet State fought back and clinched the third set. Japan secured the victory winning the fourth set easily.
