Men's World Championship 2002 - Press Info

Press Conference

France beat Yugoslavia 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-16) - duration 1:20
12-Oct, start time: 18:40, end time: 20:00 - Attendance: 5,515
Nikola Grbic (YUG CAP): "I think that France won the match because they put more heart into it than we did, but they didn't play better than us".

Dominique Daquin (FRA CAP): "I am very happy to win this game because our last match against Yugoslavia we lost 3-0 and tonight we won 3-0. What helped us today was our attitude.

Philippe Blain (FRA H.C): "I am sorry but tonight I don't want to talk about technical aspects. We spent five month preparing these player for the tournament and I am very happy because we reached our objectives".

Vaselin Vukovic: (YUG H.C.): "I want to congratulate France for their game and for the bronze medal. After yesterday's match against Russia, today they played very well. We found no solution for their best player Laurent Capet and it was our worst match of the entire competition, right now I don't know why".

Q:You have played almost all the tournament in Buenos Aires. How do you feel about the support of crowd today and yesterday?
Dominique Daquin (FRA CAP): A: "To play in Buenos Aires was good for us because the crowd is fantastic. In the first matches the people supported us but after defeating Argentina the public changed their attitude towards us.

Q: Do you think that because you changed the Head Coach things also changed?
Nikola Grbic (YUG CAP): A: "Absolutely not. Every player has his responsibility. I don't believe that the coach is the responsible of our performance. If we didn't win today's match was because we didn't put our heart to play".

Q: France has now won the bronze medal and have your place in history, how do you feel about it?
Philippe Blain (FRA H.C): A: "We received many mails during this week congratulating us on our performance. Volleyball is a very important sport in France. I am very happy with this victory."

Q: Are you going to be in charge of this team in the future?
Philippe Blain (FRA H.C): "Is very hard to say. I am very proud of this team because we insist a lot in the spirit of these players. We started the preparation two years ago. But this decision does not depend on me. I would like to maintain these players because they are excellent.
