Men's World Championship 2002 - Press Info

Press Conference

Yugoslavia beat Portugal 3-0 (25-20, 25-23, 25-16) - duration 1:11
09-Oct, start time: 16:10, end time: 17:21 - Attendance: 4,200
Ubirajara Pereyra (Portugal, Captain): "This match was very important for us. We made many serving mistakes. I think we made it easy for them to get the victory. We lacked concentration and made a lot of mistakes. It is very hard to win when you fail so much at this level".

Nikola Grbic (Yugoslavia, Captain): "I feel great, because I am playing in another semifinal. We lost only two sets to get here. We have won comfortably and we never speculated about the rival that we could meet. We did not have any bitter rival so far and that can be dangerous to face tomorrow's match".

What team do you prefer to play against tomorrow and what do you think about the World League match you lost to Brazil?

"It is the same for us, we don't have any favorites. As regards to the match we lost against Brazil we lost in the
tiebreak and we had many chances to win it. Anyway, I never think about the past but about the future. "

Juan Diaz (Portugal, Coach): "It was an important match for both teams. I think that my players played this match as a formality. They never guaranteed that we could win this match. I have played Yugoslavia many times as Cuba's head coach and I can say that today they did not have the same attitude on the court. This was a unique opportunity, we committed many mistakes but they did so too, maybe because they thought that it was going to be an easy match and mentally speaking, they didn't get ready".

Veselin Vukovic (Yugoslavia, coach): "We played just as it was needed to get to the semifinals. At moments we thought more about tomorrow's match and that is why we committed so many mistakes. But tomorrow we are not going to do that".
