Men's World Championship 2002 - Press Info

Press Conference

Japan beat Bulgaria 3-2 (25-19, 25-23, 22-25, 22-25, 17-15) - duration 2:02
06-Oct, start time: 17:40, end time: 19:42 - Attendance: 3,970
Ivanov Nikolay (Captain BUL): "I am very sad about this loss. I am very disappointed with the way the most experienced players of my team played. After the loss of yesterday it was very complicated for us to concentrate. In the first set we didn't show our level, but then I think that we improved something but it wasn't enough to win. I want to congratulate Japan for their victory".

Q: After the first two matches against France and Russia, the people thought that Bulgaria was going to be one of the candidates. What happened?
A: "It was exaggerated to say that, to think that we were going to be candidates. Our first objective was to pass to the second round and then to the quarterfinals, but we couldn't achieve this."

Kato Yoichi (Captain JAP): "We played in a very good level. I am quiet satisfied because we could win a very difficult match in the tiebreak".

Q: What do you think about this World championship?
A: "We had very difficult matches especially against Argentina. We are going to use in the future all these experiences for the Olympics. I thank all the Argentine people."

Tanaka Mikiyasu (Head Coach JAP): "Although we won the first two sets we couldn't have enough strength so Bulgaria tied the score. The first set was even but our players made a great effort and we won. During the meeting I told the players to make everything possible to achieve the objective, so I congratulate them for their work in this tournament and today's match".

Q: What do you think about this World championship?
A: "The people of Argentina are very warm. Our main objective was to be among the first eight teams. But the experience is going to be very useful for the Olympics. The players made a great effort."

Assen Galabinov (Head coach BUL):"I'm sorry about today's loss. In the beginning of the match we didn't show our maximum potential and this is the third match that we lose 3-2. I'm disappointed because our most experienced players didn't have a good match. We improved at the end. Anyway, this match was very important for us."

Q: After the first two matches against France and Russia, the people thought that Bulgaria was going to be one of the candidates. What happened?
A:"I think that we had a great opportunity of being among the best teams but unfortunately we couldn't show what we are. I think that the problems are not technical."
