Argentina beat Portugal 3-1 (21-25, 25-22, 25-22, 25-22) - duration 1:55

Match Argentina-Portugal

Marcos Milinkovic, Argentina Captain: "We knew the match against Portugal was going to be hard. We are first in the pool and that was our objective. Now we are going to celebrate and tomorrow we will think about our next rival. The team feels more free now and is keeping the regularity we wanted. We had some ups and downs with Portugal because they never gave up. Our tactic target is to be more regular in the second round, and I hope we can consolidate our way of playing."
Pereira Ubirajara, Portugal Captain : "I think that from now on everything is possible. We hoped we could win but we know Argentina is a very good team and the match would be difficult. The absence of (Hugo) Gaspar was important. We will continue working in order to reach a higher level."
Getzelevich Carlos, Argentina Head Coach: "Argentina played rotating very well, but it wasn't the same in block and defense. Some players are feeling better and the team is continuing to grow. Milinkovic played his best match. I want to be quiet and not think too much about our next rivals yet.
Juan Diaz, Portugal Head Coach: "I think the match was very interesting, we tried to play the best we could. We made many repeated mistakes that Argentina knew how to capitalize on. We thought we could have problems qualifying because it was a hard pool, and we have a very young team. Argentina knows us very well because we play in a similar way. Our target was to be within the first sixteen and we got it. This encourages us for the next round."
