Men's World Championship 2002 - Press Info

Press Conference

Argentina beat China 3-1 (32-30, 25-19, 24-26, 25-21) - duration 1:55
30-Sep, start time: 21:10, end time: 23:05 - Attendance: 8,850
Hairong Shi, Chinese player: "We failed in services because we are very young and it is the first time we are in a World Championship. The public influenced the game because they pressured us. But today we played better than yesterday against Portugal."
Marcos Milinkovic, Argentina Captain: "The team has not finished adaptating and we've had some problems we need to solve for the match against Portugal, since the Portuguese team could capitalize on our mistakes. If we do not play well enough it is because we don't feel free as the home team. There is a lot of pressure and expectations. Portugal is a similar team to ours. And it was difficult and compact but with a good level of play. We are not favorites, although we have won two matches. There are no teams that have shown to be superior."
Jorge Elgueta, Argentina player: "Today we had some ups and downs but the team reacted and never gave up. Although we are (pretty much) qualified we have to play against Portugal which is a tough rival. If we have the same ups and downs as today, the Portuguese team could defeat us. We have to get to a more regular way of playing to be in the top eight. The public was great and we are very happy about that."
Carlos Getzelevich, Argentinian Head Coach: "We need to straighten out psychologically because the pressures of being the home team plays against us. We do not have many technical or tactical mistakes but it is the pressure. The counter attack is something we have to improve and that could make the difference."
Di Anhe, Chinese Head Coach:" The Chinese team is very young and new. It is normal to be defeated and it is positive because we are getting more experience. Over time it will improve."
