Sign language teacher wins social media contest in Bari

Sign language teacher Esther De Gennaro was the eventual winner of a social media contest launched by the local Organising Committee in Bari ahead of the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014

Bari, Italy, September 17, 2014 - With six days remaining before the Palaflorio and Bari welcome six of the teams participating in the FIVB Volleyball Women’s World Championship Italy 2014, the organisers have announced the winner of this summer's social media contest.

Bari's Organising Committee, who initiated the contest, invited volleyball fans to contribute with selfies displaying a volleyball theme and tagged #barivolley2014. The photos were then collected on the official Facebook page of Bari’s Organising Committee.

The competition's winner is Esther De Gennaro, a volleyball fan who is also a sign language teacher. Esther submitted a picture where she is showing the sign version of the word volleyball and enclosed the following message: “Since there are many deaf people who are fond of this sport, I would like to join the contest with this picture, hoping that volleyball will always be a sport for all.”

The picture collected a record 235 likes. The competition's top four will receive two tickets each to attend Pool D matches at Palaflorio, which hosts the national teams of Azerbaijan, Belgium, China, Cuba, Japan and Puerto Rico for the first round of the Women's World Championship.
