Canada prevail against tough Mexico in Pool S

Canadians defeated Mexico in four sets on Saturday

Mississauga, Canada, May 17, 2014 - Action heated up tonight in Pool S of the NORCECA Women’s World Championship Qualification.

In an exciting game, Mexico warmed up and gave Canada a challenge to win the third set, but Canada regrouped to take the match in four sets 3-1 (25-16, 25-20, 20-25, 25-16).

It was a big game for Manitoban Tabi Love with 22 points, followed by Captain Brittney Page with 15. Mexico’s Andrea Rangel topped her team’s efforts contributing 13 points tonight.

“Mexico is a tough team, they always fight and play hard,” Canada’s Coach Arnd Ludwig said. “That’s what we learned today,”

Jamaica came out looking organized today, winning over U.S. Virgin Islands in straight sets 3-0 (25-22, 25-14, 25-19).

Jamaica lost to Canada in their opener yesterday in straight sets, while USVI lost to Mexico, also on Friday.

Just back from playing professionally in Denmark Simone Asque scored 17 for Jamaica, and Tiffany Clarke contributed 14 points.   Sacha Gumbs led the USVI team with 10 points.
