Alger, Algeria, February 28, 2014 - The Cameroon women's volleyball team continued to lead the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014 Africa Pool T qualifier in Alger, Algeria after recording their fourth win from five matches with a 3-0 (25-16, 25-17, 25-13) win over Botswana in the Harcha Hacène Hall on Friday.
Cameroon's 4:1 win:loss ratio sees them top the six nation group with 13 points but they will have to wait until Saturday's matches to see if unbeaten Egypt record their fifth win from as many matches to claim the second of two Africa tickets to the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014. Tunisia had claimed the first ticket last Sunday.
The defeat saw Botswana drop to a 1:3win:loss ratio.
The tournament's sixth day of play saw Egypt record their fourth win, beating Nigeria 3-0 (25-8, 25-11, 25-15) and improving their win:loss record to 4-0 (11 points), while Nigeria dropped to 1:4.
Algeria recovered from a fifth day defeat by recording their third victory against DR Congo 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-8). Algeria improved to 3:1 with nine points but Cameroon's and Egypt's wins saw them drop out of contention for the World Championship ticket. Congo dropped to 0:4.
Egypt will play Algeria in a World Championship ticket decider on the last day of the tournament with the second match featuring Congo and Botswana. With three points on offer for a 3-0 or 3-1 win or two points for a 3-2 victory, Egypt will clinch the World Championship ticket if they win due to a superior set ratio, however if they lose to Algeria, Cameroon, who have finished their matches, will book their ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014, which will take place from September 23 to October 12, on points.
