Cameroon upset host Algeria to lead World Championship qualifier


Nigeria's women's team achieved their first victory against Congo at the World Championship qualifier

Algiers, Algeria, February 27, 2014 - Cameroon Women's volleyball team achieved a ground breaking victory over hosts Algeria on day 5 of the 2014 Women's World championship qualifier African Pool T held at Harcha Hacène Hall in Algiers, Algeria on Thursday.

Cameroon led the six nation round robin tournament with a win-loss ratio of 3-1 (10 points), while Algeria suffered their first defeat to drop to 2-1.

Nigeria obtained their first victory after three defeats when they overcame DR Congo 3-1 (25-21, 25-21, 23-25, 25-20) in 100 minutes. Nigeria's record improved to 1-3, while Congo became the only winless team with 0-3

The six nation round robin tournament will feature three important matches on Friday as Algeria face Congo, while Nigeria meet Egypt and Botswana play Cameroon.
 
The winner of the six nation tournament will earn a ticket to the FIVB Volleyball Women's World Championship Italy 2014, which will take place from September 23 to October 12.
