Argentina set sight on 2014 World Championship qualifier

Coach Guillermo Orduna instructing his team before heading off to San Juan to take part in the qualification tournament for the 2014 Women's World Championship.

Buenos Aires, Argentina, October 15, 2013 - The senior women’s volleyball team of Argentina is looking forward to its main goal of the 2013 international season - the 2014 Women's World Championship Qualification Tournament that will take place in the city of San Juan at the well-known Aldo Cantoni venue.

Argentina, Peru and Colombia (Venezuela withdrew at the last moment) will compete for the second CSV place in the World Championship – the first vacancy was won by Brazil at the South American Championship – scheduled to take place from October 18 to 20.

“We have worked very hard to fulfil our goal of qualifying for the championship and we are very near its time. We will train even harder to maintain our dream of qualifying for next year's World Championship," said the coach of the Argentine team, Guillermo Orduna.

"Our goal for this year is to qualify for the tournament and this is the right moment,” said Yael Castiglione, setter for the Argentine team. “We are dreaming about returning to participate in the World Championship."

The women’s team have been training hard at the Cenard facilities and will travel to San Juan ahead of the competition. The winning team of the qualification tournament will represent South America together with Brazil at next year’s FIVB Women’s Volleyball World Championship, which will take place in Italy from September 23 to October 12.

The match schedule is as follows:

Friday, October 18th: Peru v Colombia
Saturday, October 19th: Argentina v Colombia
Sunday, October 20th: Peru v Argentina
