China claim second victory, Korea lose first at Asian World Champs Qualification

Though satisfied with the result, Coach Lang Ping expects more in the future

Chenzhou, China, September 28, 2013 – Hosts China brought home their second successive victory against New Zealand, while Korea met their first loss on day two of the Asian Women’s Qualification Tournament for the 2014 World Championships.

Korea defeated by Kazakhstan in 1-3

Following an easy win against New Zealand on Friday, Korea met a great challenge from Kazakhstan. Taking one set first, Korea lost three sets in a row and was defeated by Kazakhstan, 1-3 (25-21, 22-25, 17-25, 14-25).

Kazakhstan showed their aggressiveness from the very beginning and led from 4-1 to 7-4, causing Korea to call their first timeout. However Kazakhstan maintained the difference to the first technical timeout at 8-5. From then on, however, Korea woke up and caught up to tie through service and defense. Kazakhstan called a timeout for some adjustment and both sides stuck to each other to the second technical timeout at 16-15, with Korea in advantage. It was then show time of Kim Yeonkoung, who scored successively and helped Korea win the first set in 25-21.

Korea continued their momentum to the second set and took a 3-0 lead. However, Kazakhstan glued to their opponent and reversed the score to 8-7 at the first technical timeout by scoring three points in a row. Both sides made many errors in service and Korea again took the lead at the second technical timeout, 16-14. Kazakhstan adjusted well and scored four successive points through destructive service. Korea asked for substitution to strengthen the receiver, but were unable to make a big change. Kazakhstan kept the gap to tie the set 25-22.

Both sides played tough in the third set as they were in the same start line again. Kazakhstan held small advantage all the way to 16-13. After the second technical timeout, Kazakhstan doubled their fire and widened the gap to 25-17 to finish the key set.

Kazakhstan gained confidence and played better in the fourth set while Korea’s confidence seemed shattered by continuous errors. Kazakhstan led all the way to 16-9. The situation was controlled by Kazakhstan and finally they concluded the fourth set 25-14, and won the match in 3-1.

China gains second easy win against New Zealand

China did not spend too much time to finish their match against New Zealand 3-0 (25-4, 25-7, 25-10).

China didn't give their opponents a chance to breathe in the first set.  New Zealand only scored four points before China won the set with 25.

Local spectators even cheered up for New Zealand during the one-sided match. The away team played some good balls, but could not make trouble for the strong Chinese team. By 25-7 and 25-10, China gained their second easy win.

With two wins in hand, China will have a rest day on Sunday, when Korea will play India and Kazakhstan play New Zealand.
