Mississagua, Canada, May 15, 2014 - The Canada men’s team has progressed enormously lately and that trend could continue over the weekend when they play hosts to the NORCECA World Championship Qualification Third-Round Tournament Pool Q at Hershey Centre.

Canada are favourites to win the tournament and the ticket to Poland when they meet the teams of Panama, Trinidad and Tobago and Costa Rica,

Coach Glenn Hoag is confident about his team’s chances of being one of the 24 squads to compete in six cities in Poland for the world title next autumn.

Hoag and his colleague coaches expressed their views and goals during the press conference held at the end of the General Technical Meeting on Thursday evening.

Glenn Hoag, Canada Coach:
“We’re very happy to be back in Canada and working as a team.  We are just starting to get into a rhythm again and comfortable with the flow... All our focus this week is solely on qualifying for the World Championships.”

Angulo Calderon, Panama Coach: “This is our third time in Canada, and our preparation for this tournament was very good. We have a mix of experienced players and younger players who have come up from the junior team.  We are looking forward to this competition.”

Gideon Dickson, Trinidad and Tobago Coach: “It was challenging to get here, but it’s a great opportunity to showcase the skills, abilities and potential of Trinidadian volleyball.  This is historic for our team, as it’s the first time we have gone this far in the process (of qualifying for the World Championships).”

Cesar Salas, Costa Rica Coach: “We are very happy.  It’s a new team, new players.  This experience is very important, as important as it is to qualify.”
