We knew Cuba would be tough, says Brazil captain

Many Brazilians living in the Nagoya area came out to support their compatriots against Cuba

Brazil coach José Roberto Guimarães:
"I'm not surprised by how Cuba played. They have played well against us and the United States in this tournament. We made mistakes in attack in the first set."

Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino:
"We were able to play good volleyball. We had good serves and blocking at the critical moments."

Brazil player Fabiana de Oliveira:
"We knew from the beginning we were going to have a tough match. Brazil and Cuba are traditional rivals. Our receptions and serves improved after the first set. We showed a good balance and are pleased with the result. I hope we continue playing this way for the rest of the tournament."

Cuba coach Juan Carlos Gala:
"They (Brazil) always play very good. They were surprised in the first set but were able to come back. We lost our concentration. Their serves were very tactical. The most important thing for us was to see our players perform at a high level."

Cuba captain Yusidey Silie Frómeta:
"We wanted to win the match. But they knew how to respond to our tactics. We saw more team effort from Cuba today. We know we played a good first set. We knew they would come back and go after the match. The girls were a little sad after the loss to the Netherlands but today we had a good training session and came prepared to play. We will continue playing hard as is always the case from Cuban teams."
