Kuzyutkin pleased with manner of victory

Poland's Jerzy Matlak and Russia's Vladimir Kuzyutkin

Russia coach Vladimir Kuzyutkin:
"It was a very tough match, but we knew it would be beforehand. And we knew how important this match would be and how significant it would be to our progress in the competition. The decisive factor was not about tactics but about delivering our own style of Volleyball. I have to congratulate the Poland team and I have to congratulate my players."

Russia captain Maria Borodakova:
"We prepared very well for the match against Poland and although it was tough in the third set, those preparations helped us to win today. Our strategy is a secret, but we did work on dealing with (Poland's) Malgorzata Glinka-Mogentale."

Poland coach Jerzy Matlak:
"I haven't seen such a good performance from Russia for a couple of years. Perhaps in the first and second sets my players were afraid to attack them and our performance was not as good as it should have been. In the third set we played well, but the Russians also did very well.
"Of course, we (still) believe and hope that we can advance to the semi-finals and win our last two matches. The teams in this round – with the exception of Russia, who are dominant – all play at a similar level. It was difficult to judge what the result of this round would be because every team has shown they are capable of beating the others."

Poland player Milena Sadurek:
"Congratulations to Russia. Our play was terrible in the first and second sets. We only showed how we can play in the third set. Now we have to concentrate on our next games against Turkey and China."
