Germany roll past Czech Republic

The German team of Giovanni Guidetti only conceded three points from errors en route to a 3-0 victory over the Czech Republic

Nagoya, Japan, November 7, 2010 –  Germany routed the Czech Republic in straight sets (25-8, 25-17, 25-16) on the second day of second-round Pool F action in the 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship at Nippon Gaishi Hall on Sunday afternoon. Germany, ranked 15th, overpowered the 38th-ranked Czechs, who were eliminated from medal contention with this defeat.

The Germans bounced back from a loss to Italy on Saturday, while the Czech Republic lacked energy following their defeat by the United States a day earlier. Germany mustered a fine all-around game and seemed to have an answer for everything the Czechs tried. Giovanni Guidetti's team was especially strong on defence and combination play, and only committed three errors during the whole match. Margareta Kozuch led Germany with 20 points, all bar one coming from spikes. Kristyna Pastulova compiled 10 points for the Czechs.

Germany scored a quick win in the first set, taking it 25-8 thanks to strong play from Margareta Kozuch. The second set provided more of the same, as Germany were up 16-11 at the second TTO and took it 25-17.

By the third set it was clear that the only thing in doubt was the final score and Germany closed it out, 25-16. Following Monday's rest day, Germany will play Brazil on Tuesday, while the Czech Republic meet Cuba.
