Unbeaten Brazil roll on with Thailand win

Besides her effective spikes Jaqueline contributed in defence too in Brazil's victory over Thailand

Nagoya, Japan, November 6, 2010 – Brazil rolled over Thailand in a straight-sets victory (25-19, 25-19, 25-16) on the first day of second-round Pool F action at Nippon Gaishi Hall on Saturday afternoon.

With three wins already against their first-round opponents also placed in Pool F, the top-ranked Brazilians upped their record to 4-0 with the victory. Thailand, ranked 12th, slid to 0-4 with the defeat.

Jose Roberto Guimaraes's Brazil side were especially strong in defence, repeatedly repelling attacks from Thailand and displaying deftly-placed tips throughout the contest. Sheilla was the star attacker for the South Americans, who have dropped only two sets in the entire tournament.

Sheilla finished with 21 points including two blocks. Natalia had three aces among her 12 points and Jaqueline registered 11 tallies all via spikes. Thailand's Onuma Sittirak and Wilavan Apinyapong finished in double figures for the defeated side compiling 13 and 11 points respectively.

The first set was a tight affair with Brazil taking a 16-14 lead at the Second Technical Timeout (STT), after Jacqueline scored on a super tip. Thailand hung in valiantly but could not deal with the power game of Brazil and fell 25-19 on a nice serve by Natalia.

The Brazilians showed off their great passing skills during some notable rallies in the second set. The Asian side were organised and had their moments but were hurt by a lack of depth and dropped the set 25-19.

The final set provided more of the same and Brazil completed a clinical effort when a Thai serve went into the net. Ze Roberto's charges will play Cuba next on Sunday, while Thailand take on the Netherlands.
