We kept believing says Czech captain Plchotova

Simona Gioli of Italy discusses tactics with Giulia Rondon during the match against the Czech Republic

Czech coach Jiri Siller:
“Our strategy was to have good serving and push Gioli away from the possibility of attack. We believed that we could be good in defense.”

Asked about Aneta Havlickova, after she tallied a near-record 34 points:
“Aneta plays in Italy, and tonight she was playing against Italy. So it was a good motivation for her.”

Czech captain Ivana Plchotova:
“It’s an important game for us. We kept belief in ourselves. The Italian team is very good, and we have never beaten them before. This is our first time. Tonight we could do everything we tried to do.”

Italy coach Massimo Barbolini:
“Our team played so well during the first two sets. After that, we made a lot of mistakes. The Czech team played better than us, so their victory is a correct result. They are good at blocking, and in some moments, we needed to pay attention or be patient. But immediately, we could not react properly. That’s why we lost this game.”

Italy player Simona Gioli:
“The game started uneasily. It was a difficult match. In the first two sets, we played well, and we were thinking toward the end that we are going to win. But after we won two sets, we began to make more mistakes. That’s why we lost this match.”

Italy captain Eleonora Lo Bianco:
“It’s almost the same feeling as Simona says. After winning the first two sets, we suddenly lost motivation to play, and the Czech team kept their motivation to win.”
