Cuba outblocked Thailand 13-3 and both teams have a 2-2 record with one day to go in the pool
Cuba coach Juan Carlos Gala:
"I congratulate Thailand because they played a good match. We knew the match would be difficult because the Thais have improved their technique a lot and they're a team that never gives up. But I also think our team have been improving. The mentality of my girls is that each game is the last one for us. After being 0-2 down and almost out of the tournament, they have strengthened their mentality and now they are showing what they are capable of."
Cuba captain Yusidey Silie:
"We are very happy as a result of this match today. We made few mistakes, we felt good within ourselves and played as a team. I think these factors led to our victory. And it was a win we needed badly because we want to stay in the competition. But I also want to congratulate Thailand because they played a very good match."
Cuba player Yoana Palacios:
"We came out with the attitude that we must give it our all because we want to stay in the competition. We gave everything we have – we played like we were playing for a gold medal. The Thais never quit, but in the end we were able to prevail.
"I'm delighted to be representing my country here. From the first match, I felt confident and I feel very secure in myself."
Thailand coach Kiattipong Radchatagriengkai:
"I want to congratulate Cuba. They played a very good game, with good preparation and a game plan from their coach and staff to beat our team. They were very successful with their techniques and played with skill. We played with a bit more anxiety today and we found it difficult to control our techniques and skill. On top of that, we made errors, especially in situations that were good for us so we couldn't convert. Also, our key spiker (Onuma Sittirak) was not so good today, so we will have to try and solve these problems. I hope Cuba play well in their next game and I wish them luck in the tournament."
Thailand captain Wilavan Apinyapong:
"First, I want to congratulate Cuba. Today we tried very hard to get points from them and we tried our best, but it wasn't good enough to win. The Cuban players played very well and they are very strong. All their players are good. In addition, we made too many errors, so we must sort that out for the next match."
