Matsumoto, Japan, November 2, 2010 – On the latest stop of his tour of all Japanese cities hosting first-round matches at the FIVB Women’s World Championship, FIVB President Mr. Jizhong Wei paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Matsumoto, Mr. Akira Sugenoya, on Monday.

President Wei, whose city tour is
designed for him see at first-hand the tournament’s development and
organisation, presented the Mayor with an FIVB gold medallion in
recognition of all his personal support in bringing this event to
“We are very honoured by the visit of the FIVB President to the city of Matsumoto and I wish him the best, as well as all the members of his Volleyball institution,” Mr. Sugenoya said. “I hope he has a very pleasant stay here and during all your time in Japan.”
“I am very glad to be here in Matsumoto and I really appreciate all the efforts made by their people and the local authorities to ensure the success of the FIVB Women’s World Championship in this friendly city,” the FIVB President said. “I want to congratulate you and all the members of the Local Organizing Committee for a well organized stage.”
The teams of Croatia, Cuba, Germany, Kazakhstan, Thailand and the United States have been competing at the Matsumoto City Gymnasium since October 29, with two more days of action to come.
Early last week, FIVB First Executive Vice President Mr. Cristóbal Marte Hoffiz and the other members of the FIVB Control Committee who are presiding over affairs in Matsumoto, also visited Mr. Sugenoya at his City Hall offices.
The Local Organizing Committee of Matsumoto is headed by Akira Muzakami with the assistance, among others, of Kiyoshi Segi, president of the Nagano Volleyball Association, and Osamu Saitoh, director of the Japan Volleyball Association.
