So far the television ratings for the 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship have been impressive, peaking at 12.8 on Saturday
Tokyo, Japan, November 1, 2010 – The 2010 FIVB Women’s World Championship is already proving to be one of the most successful editions of the tournament as broadcasters TBS published the latest ratings for the event currently taking place in Japan.

The highest rating so far has been the host country’s clash with Peru on Saturday which drew a 12.8 rating. This was closely followed by a 12.3 for the Japan v Algeria match on Sunday and 11.3 for Japan v Poland on Friday. Spectator numbers are also through the roof in the first round with a match-high of 11,000, also for Japan’s meeting with Peru.

“These are excellent figures for the opening three days of competition and illustrate how much the Japanese people appreciate top class Volleyball,” FIVB President Jizhong Wei said. "Congratulations to TBS and JVA for providing such fantastic coverage of what is proving to be an outstanding tournament. We look forward to continued world class television coverage of this top class event.”

Fans were able to take a breather on Monday with a rest day, following a pulsating start to the tournament over the weekend which saw defending champions Russia, 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix winners USA, Brazil, Italy, Serbia, Japan and Korea progress to the second round. Nine more spots are still up for grabs when the tournament continues across the Asian country on Tuesday.
