Coaches united in praise for 'great match'

Netherlands coach Avital Sellinger and his captain Manon Flier show their disappointment in the press conference

Italy coach Massimo Barbolini:

“It has been a very tough match, a match in which both teams made a lot of defense, not a lot of mistakes. Probably in the fifth set, we made good points by changing the ball. It was a very tough match, a very good match.”

Italy captain Eleonora Lo Bianco:

It was a very difficult match, but I’m very gratified with the way we played from the start of the match to the finish.

The Netherlands coach Avital Selinger:

“It was a great match. Very high level. You know, coaches are worried about every error. But there were not so many errors. Once you look at the data, basically not many errors. A lot of very tough serving by both teams. Great defense by both teams. It could go either way. Third set, Italy came from behind. Fourth set, we came back from the end. Fifth set it went their way, they made big plays in crucial moments, we didn’t. There will always be a winner, and Italy deserved to win just due to the fact that they won. Hopefully everybody enjoyed the game. It’s just one game out of 11 matches, and we have to go on and continue.”

The Netherlands captain Manon Flier:

“It was a tough fight. Maybe they played better in the fifth set for sure. They did a good job, and they won.”

“I didn’t think about the match of tomorrow. It’s always a hard hard match against Brazil. It’s a strong team. We will do everything we can, and see the result
