Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino is taking part in her third FIVB Women's World Championship |
Tokyo, Japan, October 22, 2010 – Brazil captain Fabiana Claudino said her team were comfortable being considered among the favourites to win the 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship following their arrival in Japan ahead of the start of the tournament.
Brazil, the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix runners-up, begin their campaign against Kenya on October 29 but will play a friendly against hosts Japan as part of their final preparations before then.
"For everything that we've already won, Brazil start off as one of the favourites in this competition," Fabi said at her side's first training session. "The pressure to win is there but that's part of the routine for a player in the Brazil team."
Brazil coach Jose Roberto Guimaraes is also happy to carry the favourites' tag, despite his side having lost out to USA in the World Grand Prix in August.
"We've worked hard and had a good preparation for the competition," he said. "We did everything we could during the period of training in Saquarema. The World Championship is a competition that does not allow mistakes. All the matches are difficult. We have to play well all of the time."
After facing Kenya, Brazil will also play the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Puerto Rico and the 2009 FIVB World Grand Champions Cup winners Italy in Pool B. The 2010 FIVB Women's World Championship run from October 29-November 10.
