Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 30 2010 – Brazil’s Jaqueline has said she couldn’t have imagined a better return to the side as she picked up the Best Spiker award at the 2010 FIVB World Grand Prix final round as well as a silver medal as the USA beat the defending champions to the gold.
The 26-year-old took a year out in 2009 as she married Murilo from Brazil’s men’s national team. However she stormed back into the side this year, picking up 69 spikes from 153 attempts in this year’s tournament, earning a success rate of 45.10%.
"I confess I was surprised,” Jaqueline said. “I did not expect to win this title. But I'm very happy. After a year off the team, coming back with this award is wonderful.”
"We did not start very well at this decisive stage and also lost two very important players. But the team managed to overcome and conquer this silver medal. The Grand Prix has served as a great learning experience for the World Championships.”
