21, 2010 – Cuba continued their build up to the FIVB Women’s World
Championship on Sunday as they beat Peru 3-1 (21-25, 26-24, 25-15,
25-22) in the finals of the Telefonica Cup in Lima, Peru in front of
3,000 spectators.
Peru, who are also preparing for the World Championships from October
29 - November 14 in Japan, were constantly asking questions of Cuba,
but could not tame the visitor’s aggressive game.

Argentina and Uruguay also took part in the tournament and finished third and fourth respectively.
Peru started the game well and picked up the first set 25-21 and looked
to have the game under control as they marched to a 24-23 lead in the
second. However, Cuba retaliated with two powerful serves from Kenia
Carcases to win the set 26-24, bringing the match level.
The third set proved decisive, with a demotivated Peru struggling
against a resurgent Cuba, who won 25-15 before going on to take the
match with a 25-22 victory in the final set.
