Drawing of Lots dates confirmed for 2010 World Champsionships
2006 World Champion Russia will defend its title in Japan in 2010
Lausanne, September
25, 2009 — The FIVB today confirmed the dates, times and locations for the
Drawing of Lots for the men’s and women’s World Championships to be held in
Italy and Japan, respectively, next year.
The men’s draw will
take place in Rome, Italy on Wednesday October 28 from 19:00 at the Auditorium
Parco della Musica, Sala Petrassi.
The women’s draw
will be held in Tokyo, Japan on Tuesday November 24th from 14:00 at
the Grand Prince Akasaka Hotel.
All 48 teams (24
men’s, 24 women’s) were finalized this summer after months of intense
qualifying matches.
The men will
compete from September 24-October 10 in cities across Italy, while the women’s
event will take place from October 29-November 14 in Japan.
Defending men’s champion
Brazil will compete against hosts Italy, Puerto Rico, Russia, Germany, Venezuela, Tunisia, Egypt, China, Australia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Poland, France, Serbia, Spain, Cuba, USA, Cameroon, Japan, Iran, Canada, Mexico and Argentina.
On the women’s side, Russia will defend its title against hosts Japan, Kenya, Algeria, China, Thailand, Korea, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Dominican Republic, USA, Puerto Rico, Canada, Costa Rica, Brazil, Peru, Italy, Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Turkey, Poland, Germany and the Netherlands.
