Lendava, Slovenia, January 12, 2009 - Hungary and hosts Slovenia clinched the two tickets available for the FIVB 2010 Women's World Championship second round at the Pool A first-round tournament in Lendava this weekend.
Hungary, as the first-ranked team, move to the second-round Pool E to face Belgium, Slovakia and Croatia in Split through May 15-17. The Hungarians opened their World Championship campaign on Friday by defeating Austria 3-1, then continued their run with an easy 3-0 win against Bosnia & Herzegovina before finishing the job against Slovenia with another convincing 3-1 win.
As runners-up of this tournament, Slovenia advance to Pool G and in the second round will test France, Greece, Spain and Finland (venue and competition dates still to be confirmed).
The results of the Lendava tournament completed quite a successful weekend for the Hungarian Volleyball family as the girls' youth team are now close to qualifying for the final round of the 2009 European Championships after scoring a dazzling victory against pre-favourites Poland in a tournament currently underway in Zocca, Italy.
