Stiffer challenges ahead for Peru says Kim

Peru libero Vanessa Palacios said "we were a little nervous, but at the end of the sets we could play our own game.”

Costa Rica captain Verania Willis:
"Congratulations to the Peru team. Both teams started strong, and we both had to win to move on today. So this was a tough game today. Overall we played pretty well today, but at the end of each set we could have played better. We have some room for improvement.”

Costa Rica coach Braulio Godinez:
“Our practising environment and our techniques are not as good as Peru, but we didn’t think about that during the match. I’m quite satisfied with how our players performed today. This result in the World Championships is the best in our country’s history. We want to improve and someday become a team that can beat Peru."

Peru libero Vanessa Palacios:
“I believed that this would be a hard match, and we knew we had to win to move on to the second round. We were a little nervous, but at the end of the sets we could play our own game.”

Peru coach Kim Cheol Yong:
“Today we had a clear objective — to win and qualify for the second round. That’s why we were a little nervous, but I’m pleased with our result. We know more difficult matches will come in the second round.”

On the Costa Rican team: “The Costa Rican side has good players, and they get up very high. From the left and right they deliver good attacking Volleyball. It was difficult. My general impression is that they are very good, as with most other teams competing here in Japan in these World Championships.”

On facing his mother-country Korea in the second round: “The Korean team are playing very good Volleyball now, good and solid. It will be a difficult match for us.”
