Kazakhstan played hard - McCutcheon

Destinee Hooker and Logan Tom led the American victory with 15 and 13 points respectively
USA coach Hugh McCutcheon:
"I thought Kazakhstan served the ball quite strongly, so they caused us problems with their service. They played hard throughout the match and I thought our athletes did as well. At key moments, we were one or two plays better. I'm happy with the win and now we can focus on the match tomorrow."

USA captain Jennifer Tamas:
"I thought Kazakhstan blocked us well tonight, so we had to make sure we used the whole court  and try to broaden our offense a bit. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's match, our last match in Matsumoto. We've enjoyed ourselves here and we are hoping to play well tomorrow."

Kazakhstan coach Nelli Chsherbakova:
"I would say they are a brilliant team, but this time we could also see how other teams play and we recognise that we should learn more and train more for the next tournament."

Is there any part of your team's game that is close to the Americans:
"You can't talk about one part of the game of volleyball in isolation, because it's a team game and you have to consider all parts together. But if I had to say something, I would say our attack was not so bad this time. I think we did our best, but this was the limit of our power. I know we must raise our level for next time."

Kazakhstan captain Inna Matveyeva:
"As you saw, the USA were really good; we just tried to enjoy the game and reach our own goals. I think we should learn many things from them and the way they play."
If captain Tatyana Pyurova had been able to make the trip, would it have made a difference:
"I think the captain is important, but it's a team that plays, so it depends on more than that and I don't think the result would be so different."
