Ze Roberto praise for improving Kenya

Brazil and Kenya head coaches and captains in the press conference

Brazil coach Jose Guimaraes (also known as Ze Roberto):

“I want to say congratulations to the Kenya team. I thought they played a very good match, this is very important to Volleyball. My team didn’t play well in the first and second sets, but in the third we played very well. I saw evolution in the Kenyan team, it was very good, congratulations.”

“Russia is playing high balls, Japan is playing quickly. We have many styles of play here. It is difficult. We did very good preparation for all teams.”

Brazil captain Fabiana:

“Our playing got better as the match went on.”

Brazil player Jaqueline:

“Today’s match was the first for us so we were a bit anxious at first but we got more relaxed later in the match. I will try to do more to help my team in the next game.”

Kenya coach Hidehiro Irisawa:

“We were honoured to play against a great Brazilian team, they have such a great heart. My disappointment is that I wish we could have received better.”

“We watched Brazil’s games on video so many times over and over. I went there many times as a player and coach. So I prepared our defense according to that.”

((In answer to a question, Irisawa said he played with Fujifilm team five years, then he was one of coaches of women’s team for five years, then head coach for seven years. After that, he was head coach 12 years at a high school in Hokkaido. He was invited to Kenya to see great junior high school boy, and then was asked to coach national women’s team. After becoming Kenya’s coach, his team practiced outside for a month, because there were not many gyms in Kenya. “I focused on improving individual strength and reception.”))

Kenyan captain Brackcides Khadambi:

“This was a good game for us, we played our best. We learned many things from them, but they also learned many things from us. I hope we can play our best next time. It feels good to play with a big, well-known team in the world.”
