Park admits relief after Korea beat Canada

Korea beat Canada in straight sets (25-19, 25-19 25-14) in its opening match in Pool D at the FIVB Women's World Championship at Osaka Municipal City Gymnasium on Friday afternoon.

Osaka, Japan October 29, 2010 - FIVB Women's World Championships Press Conference Korea v Canada:

Korea coach Park Sam-Ryong: I suffered from not being able to gather enough information about the Canadian team but we were still able to overcome it and prevail. Hwang Youn-Joo, who is left-handed, performed well with Kim Yeong-Koung, who is right-handed. This is a plan that we have continued to use.

Korea player Kim Yeon-Koung: It was the first match and I had my worries. I am happy to finish with a win. All of our serves and receptions went well. Our combinations plays also worked. Serve well and receive well, that is our strategy.

Canada coach Arnd Ludwig: We didn't get into the game as we wanted to. Our offense didn't develop. We weren't prepared for No. 14 (Hwang Youn-Joo) and she affected my players. They couldn't play well as a result.

Canada captain Tammy Louise Mahon: It was the first match and everybody was battling nerves and excitement. We could have played better. We will try to improve tomorrow. We tend to struggle with consistency. We need to believe that we can take sets and matches off the top teams.
