Team profile

The Korean women’s team has always been known for its quick combination play and mental agility, but for the last few years they have been trying to add power and height to keep up with the worldwide trend in women’s Volleyball.

The results from the last major international tournaments were not satisfactory for Korean Volleyball and its fans. They finished eighth at the 2007 FIVB World Cup, fourth at the 2007 Asian Championship, fifth at the 2006 Asian Games and 13th at the 2006 FIVB World Championship.

Their return to the 2009 FIVB World Grand Prix was also a disappointment as they finished last and failed to make the 2010 edition. But despite this slump Korea are confident that the World Championships will help them turn things around and usher in a new era for the sport in the country.

Coach profile

Park Sam-Ryong was recently installed as the new Korea coach having been an assistant to the side for over 60 matches.

The 42-year-old has had a host of experience and currently also coaches the KT&G Ariels Women’s Volleyball team, whom he led to a V-League title this year.

He was also a member of the Korean side that took part in the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games and won gold at the 1987 FIVB Junior World Championships.
