Argentine Women come together for second-round showdown

Italy-based Sabrina Seguí will join Team Argentina on Monday
Tortuguitas, Argentina, May 8, 2009 - The Argentine Women’s National Team is gradually gearing up for the second round of the 2010 Women’s World Championship, to be played here from May 31-June 2 at Tortuguitas Stadium.

Argentina will face Venezuela, Uruguay, Chile, Bolivia and Colombia at the tournament, with the top two teams qualifying for the third round in Brazil in July.

Coach Horacio Bastit named a provisional team of 17 local players, who will welcome back overseas stars such as Sabrina Seguí, who plays for Italian A2 League team Club San Vito, on Monday.

Other overseas-based players include Georgina Klug (Spanish Superliga 2), Yamila Nizatich (Leading scorer for Pro A French League club Stade Francais), Ileana Leyendeker (Spanish Superliga 2) and Mariana Robinet (who played last season in Russia). The internationals will join local-based players from Argentine League winners Banco Nación Pergamino and runner-up Boca Juniors Mercedes, who started training with the National Team on April 27.

The team will move to the Tortuguitas Stadium on the morning of May 14 to get used to the court and fulfil a request by the local media to hold a news conference.

Also present will be Argentine Volleyball Federation President Arq. Alejandro Bolgeri, the Treasurer and Coordinator of the Regional Development Volleyball Center Gabriel Salvia, and General Secretary Andrés Ibáñez Parody.
