Milano, Italy, September 27, 2010 – Not only is the FIVB Men’s World Championship Italy 2010 a great success on the court but the premier tournament in international Volleyball has also been a huge hit with the local communities throughout the host country with 2,000 people having devoted their time and energy in the role of a volunteer.

This number shows the great passion Italian Volleyball fans have for the sport and illustrates the outstanding work of the 10 local organizing committees prior to the beginning of the competition.
The volunteers have been used in all types opf roles from catering, transportation to hostess work, interpreter and press runner. “I asked to be a volunteer because I love Volleyball and I wanted to be part of the Championship,” Chiara, 20, from Milan said.
“When they called me and said I will be one of the interpreters for Egypt, I couldn’t believe it,” said Carolina, 22, born in Italy but of Egypt decent. “ Now I am working with the team for the first and second rounds, I can speak my native tongue and at the same time I can discover a new part of this amazing game.”
“The volunteers have a lot of work to do before and after the match,” Martina, 21, from Milan said. “The passion is the real engine of these people, because the work is hard, but they don’t care about it. I began last Saturday in the morning as a hostess in the stands and I will finish on Sunday with the last match of the second round. My legs hurt, but I don’t care if I can watch all the matches, and see all the players so close.”
Carlo Salvatori, President of the Organizing Committee, said: “They are the heart of any great event, ready to welcome the public and professionals. The numbers to make this World Championship an unforgettable event are all here. Now we have to wait for the stars to give us a unique gift.”
