Frankfurt, Germany, September 2, 2010 – Germany and Russia will clash on Friday and Saturday as the two sides look to prepare for the 2010 FIVB Men’s World Championship, set to take place in Italy from September 25-October 10.
Russia will be hoping their silver medal finish at the FIVB World League earlier this year will help give them momentum in the upcoming FIVB World Championships later this month
Germany will be in Pool F alongside Poland, Serbia and Canada when they begin their campaign while Russia, silver medalists at this year's FIVB World League, face Puerto Rico, Australia and Cameroon.
“In the past Russia gained a lot of medals so the team is a perfect opponent for my team,” Germany coach Raúl Lozano said on Thursday.
Olympian Stefan Hübner returns to the German side after retiring from the national team after the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
Germany will also play matches versus Italy on September 10 and 12 as well as defending World Champions and recent World League victors Brazil on September 17, 19 and 21.
