Important win for Cuba says Simon

Cuban Rolando Cepeda Abreu flies through the air to keep the ball alive against Spain

Julian Garcia Torres, Spain Captain: "Congratulations to Cuba. I wish them to win this World Championship. We have played against a very difficult team and we managed to fight until the end point to point. We didn’t succeed but in the second set we kept focused and we won it."

Robertlandy Simon Aties, Cuba Captain: "It was a difficult game and they played a good match. We fought a lot and this was very important for us. We achieved our goal and we are pretty satisfied."

Julio Velasco, Spain coach: "Congratulations to Cuba because they won a difficult match. It’s the second time we played at the same level as Cuba in a World Champonship, and I’m proud of my players. But we need to acquire more experience and more confidence in order to be ready for the next round. It’s the second time that we place in the first 12 in a World Championship. Next time we have to think to fight for the medals."

Orlando Samuel Blackwood, Cuba coach: "It was a difficult game, and Spain played very well. We wanted to go to win and we finally did it. The team is very young and we lacked in experience as people could see in the second set. At the end we took points and we ran away because we were consistent, and I’m happy about it. The next game will be against Bulgaria and it will be difficult. we need to keep focused."
