Reid Priddy, Captain of USA: “I am extremely disappointed because we could have won the second set and didn’t take advantage of many opportunities to do it. I am also extremely disappointed about playing in that kind of environment and I have no respect for that.”
Valerio Vermiglio, Captain of Italy: “It was a very emotional game but also very good match with a high technical level. We suffered a lot during the match but stayed together and played with heart. This is one of many finals we will be playing in the next few days.”
Responding to a question about using heart as a weapon:
“Heart is one of the most powerful weapons any team can have. Because with heart you play united and fight together. Tomorrow against France will be a tough match and another final.”
Alan Knipe, Coach of USA: “First of all it was a very emotional match, but Italy is playing at home in a World Championship and there is going to be emotions. We had many opportunities to win the second set and take a 2-0 lead but didn’t capitalize. We didn’t and Italy was able to come back and win the second set, so credit to Italy. I want to congratulate the Italians for a well organized World Championship and wish them luck in the next round.”
Andrea Anastasi, Coach of Italy: “It was a well balanced match of good level. Both teams used good blocks and defense and played a wonderful match. Our attack improved gradually and the blocking was better in the fourth set.”
