2010 FIVB Men's Volleyball World Championship

 Match info | Press Conference
We are definitely playing better than at the beginning of the tournament - Knipe

The inclusion of David Lee in the USA line-up seemed to be the difference
Rome, Italy, October 4, 2010 - USA v France press conference

France player Guillaume Samica: Today we did not play well and did not manage to demonstrate our full potential. When you reach this phase of the World Championship, you cannot afford to make mistakes. The United States played an incredible match, and we unfortunately had to succumb especially without two of our most important players like Henno and Rouzier.

USA captain William Priddy: We began in the best possible way, though we could have done something more in attack. But I think that at the end it worked out well.

France coach Philippe Blain: I am disappointed by the outcome of the match but unfortunately we made many errors in attack. I think we played relatively well at the onset of the first set but our performance was dramatically below our skill and technical level.

USA coach Alan Knipe: We got off to an excellent start , and our attack and block percentage was almost perfect. I am quite satisfied with our performance, especially with respect to our technical level. We are definitely playing better than at the beginning of the tournament, since we finally have attained the continuity of one line-up. Playing on a daily basis gives us the opportunity to obtain that stability necessary to win matches. The match with Mexico was a rude awakening but it made us stop thinking and start playing. We had only seen France play on video, and were prepared to face a tough opponent. I give credit to my players for keeping focused and the level high.

About their next match against USA
Italy will certainly have an advantage since it is playing at home, and has reacquired important players that were absent last year in the World League.
