Velasco: 'I wanted to advance with victory'

Argentinean Julio Velasco says he is proud of finishing first in Pool I

Captain of Egypt Ashraf Abouelhassan: “We had many problems with the reception and the attack. We committed to many errors but Spain played better than us. Our difficulties relied on the injuries of our middle blockers and that is very tough in this kind of competition.”

Captain of Spain Julian Garcia Torres: “This is a historical victory for Spain as we have never passed from a 13th place in the world championship. Now we have secured at least a twelfth place and maybe to be the champions, who knows. It is only a game. I think that today we played like in the whole tournament and from now on we will try to win as many matches as possible. We have to continue with our mentality of winning every game or at least make the opponent to work harder for the win”.

Coach of Egypt Antonio Giacobbe: “Spain has played extremely well with many positive actions on the field. They played a very well compacted volleyball and our conditions were not at the top but that doesn’t take anything to the merits of Spain for the victory.”

Coach of Spain Julio Velasco: “I wanted to advance to the third round with a victory and not by points. That’s the reason last night last night I said today was a D-Day for us. And I am very proud of it. We are very proud to be first no matter the next opponent. We clearly won today’s match and my players kept the calm and were not nervous when Egypt was better than us, and that’s an improvement from the past summer. In these matches we have improved more than in all the summer. Egypt is a team with good servers but today they were not that good and it helped us a little in the first set.”
